Ah, I feel bad to do this to another brony, but you aren't allowed to upload content to deviantart that does not belong to you unless you have permission from the original artists. The problem with this is that the animation is usually made by a team, and so you would have to figure out who all worked on the screen and get written permission from every one of them. Although I'm sure they probably would give it to you, it might take a lot of work. Your better bet is to take it down and re-post it on a site where it doesn't violate the rules, like 'bronies' on memebase or maybe Equestria Daily solely (as I see it managed to get up there). I apologize if this causes you inconvience, but if you don't comply the admins will end up removing it anyways, and then you will also get in trouble, and since you are an actual artist I wouldn't want that to happen.
There are lots of pony-comics on deviantart - more than I can count. They don't get taken down. This is because this content wasn't made by the MLP staff, it was made by the artist. He used the franchise, but nothing else. If you want to find bundles of comics like this, go to the comic section of EquestriaDialy.
"This is because this content wasn't made by the MLP staff`
Uh... yes. Yes it was. These are screenshots taken directly from the show. The artist did not make them, and they will be taken down as the admins eventually remove all stolen artwork. They are, however, far behind considering the sheer amount of violations of the TOS in this site.
Every comic I've ever seen on EquestriaDaily have been made BY the artist, not screenshots from the show with text quickly thrown onto it. I have no problem if the artist draws it themselves, but stealing screenshots from a show is wrong, and an insult to the creators of the show.
Yes and no. While it's just cropped from one of the newer episodes, it's really a very clever use of that content. It doesn't pass off as being a genuine part of the original animation and OP doesn't take credit for the artwork. I'd say this falls within the lines of fair use, which is great in this case as that was a very funny comic
Still, I sort of see what you mean, for example I know if people re-used my stuff with captions/modification I wouldn't be thrilled about it. But that's mostly pics and comics - I think if people sourced screenshots from an animation of mine and credited for it, that would be OK as, in some hard-to-describe way, it's not quite the same as copying an image. It's a new/different medium. Same as how someone might recreate an oil painting or something in any one of the vast swathe of other possible mediums, it comes across as more of a tribute than a ripoff.
I think that's the general consensus around here: copying comics/images is not OK without permission, but grabbing select frames from a video and compiling your own comic isn't an injustice to the original piece or the effort which went into it.
True enough. While it doesn't belong on here and is violating the rules, I'd love to have it up on bronies or Equestria Daily. Unfortunately, since it is a screenshot of the scene it does not fall under fair use. But as I said before, I'm sure most of the animators of My Little Pony wouldn't care too much, and you'd probably get permission to use something like this easily X3
Funny, because I see it the same way. I'm not sure I could explain it either, but I still would feel a little hurt if they didn't ask for permission first. That's probably because I'm not a popular artist though. If I was an animator of a popular show like that, I doubt I would care at all, and would probably take it as more of a compliment then anything. Although the comparison to recreating a painting is kind of off, seeing as this was copy, paste, and throw text overtop. When you re-create an artwork in another medium, you do everything from scratch using your own talents.
I really dislike that consensus seeing as this is a site for broadcasting artwork you made yourself, not a comic website like memebase. Little by little I'm starting to see less original artwork and more traces, screenshots and ripped off artwork.
There could be some kind of service projects up thar~ I was in South Korea and got to ship out kimchi now and then for homeless folks. Also giving free umbrellas to a random kid walking up and down the street during monsoon season when he didnt' have one was fun too. Never actually got to talk with those kids though, I just said it was a present and left >.>
Nah, it's all good XD 90% of the folks on the internet joke about LDS folks and J-dubs all the time without realizing how many of us are parts of the same fandoms and same level of nerdiness~ No worries
Its just screenshots with captions, which even i , the horrid drawer, could use to make something better than this, overused idea, I have friends who talk about jesus to friends, AND the name is horrible.
